The Matchmaker

Yue Lao (literally means the old man in the moon), is the god who unites persons in marriage in a Chinese legend. He is definitely the founder of the following matchmakers since Tang Dynasty.

Originally, he was a persuasive matchmaker in Tang Dynasty, as he succeeded in persuading the lovers be couples, slowly, he became a widely known image of immortal and well known by every Chinese, for every person has a dream to have a true lover. Legend says, Yue Lao has a book in his hands called "the book of fate", on which the marriage of all people are recorded. Meanwhile, he also has a red strand, once he ties a man and a woman on their feet with the strand, the two will surely become a couple no matter where they are, what are they and even they are two men.

By the West Lake of Hangzhou, there is a temple with the statues of the matchmaker, if you want to have a good marriage, why not burn joss sticks, draw straws and vow to the god for your marriage?
