In the history of China, folk residences are the earliest architectural types, and are usually in diversified forms with no restrictions and built according to local conditions. Folk Residences have the strongest folk styles and local flavors in Chinese architectural art.

The largest group, the Han, make up over 92% of China's vast population, and it is the elements of Han civilization that world considers "Chinese culture."
