Guangzhou Opera House

Together with National Theather in Beijing and Grand Theater in Shanghai, Guangzhou Opera House is one of the three biggest theaters in China. The designer of Guangzhou Opera House was Pritzker-Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid. Covering an area of 42000 square meters, it is located downstream of Pearl River. From appearance of the building, you will find it was built with bold designs, and it cost over 10 billion yuan (15 million USD) in total.

Guangzhou Opera House is equipped with 1800 seats and many other facilities. It looks like two pebbles, and one is larger than the other. The larger one plays the role as the theather, while the smaller one serves as the multi-function hall. It is said that the construction is even more difficult and complicated than the famous Bird’s Nest in Beijing. The reason is that there is no beam or column connection the same as any other. It implies that it is a great programmer and worth visiting.

Entering the opera house, you will see the stone walls of the halls forming an array of mountains. With the help of the transparent glass walls, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Pearl River. In order to provide a full view of the mountain, the stage and even the audience's seats are movable. Thus, you can enjoy the different experience and appreciate the beautiful as well.

As one of the venues of the 9th China Art Festival (May 10 - 25, 2010), there are many high-level art and culture shows at home and abroad staged, including Italian opera Turandot in Guangzhou Opera House. In other words, it is the cultural center of Guangzhou City.
