Nanjiang Canyon

Nanjiang Canyon is a newly developed scenic spot in Guiyang. There are more than 80 natural attractions, more than 40 of which are waterfalls. Nanjiang Canyon is forty kilometers long, with a maximum depth of two hundred and fifty meters. Flocks of white egrets fly down the river by day, returning to their nests upstream when dusk falls in Nanjiang Canyon of Guiyang. At night, the fireflies remove darkness from the valley, presenting a wondrous show. At the vacation resort within the middle of the canyon, a bonfire party is organized, where dances and songs of Yi ethnic girls are performed and feasts of native food like roasted whole lamb are offered.

Waterfalls of big and small, forty eight in total, cascade into the canyon of Nanjiang. Bell Waterfall, one in these waterfalls, could be a typical travertine fall. The 30-metre-high rock from where the water gushes down conceals a limestone cave, which permits guests to "enter the rock" and watch the falling water from inside.

White-water rafting is that the most thrilling attraction for energetic travelers to the canyon. There are various fascinating peaks, caves and breathtaking shoals along the river. Within the scenic area of Ladder Cliff, the steep banks sandwiching the slender river seem to be been chopped by a large axe. At the tip of an 800-merte-long funnel-shaped section, the river becomes thus slender that the branches of the trees growing on opposite banks overlap.
