    • 1. By Air

     

    Xiaoshan International Airport, located some 27 kilometers (17 miles) from downtown Hangzhou, has daily flights to main cities and larger tourist cities in China, and also flights to and from Hongkong and Singapore. Airport buses run from the downtown city to the airport for CNY20. Travelers can also take a taxi for around CNY100.

     

    • 2. By Railway

     

    Hangzhou is an important railroad intersection in East China. Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway, Zhejiang- Jiangxi Railway and Anhui- Hangzhou Railway join here.

    Hangzhou Railway Station, located at the intersection of East City Ring Road and West Lake Avenue. From Hangzhou Railway Station, it only takes 10 minutes to West Lake by bus.

     

    • 3. By Highway

     
    Hangzhou is the center for road transportation in Zhejiang Province. The city has four long distance bus stations: South, East, West and North Bus Stations. Buses to neighboring cities like Nanjing and Shanghai are plentiful.

     

    • 4. City Transportation


    (1) Public Bus

    The number of city bus is important. Bus numbers prefixed by "K" are air-conditioned. Bus numbers prefixed by "3" and "5" run to the neighboring rural areas and special destinations, respectively. It is CNY1 for all bus numbers with one or two digits and three-digit bus numbers preceded by "1". It is CNY2 for all air-conditioned buses. Prices for special bus lines and buses running to the next rural areas vary according to the bus condition and distance (the starting price for a general bus is CNY1 and CNY2 for an air-conditioned one). All tourism buses are air-conditioned and cost CNY2.

     


    (2) By Taxi

    The flag-down fare is CNY10 for the first 3 kilometers with CNY1 fuel surcharge. It costs CNY2 per kilometer for the next 3–10 kilometers. For over 10 kilometers the fare is CNY3 per kilometers.

    (3) Bicycle
    Bicycle is one of the best means to adventure Hangzhou, particularly West Lake. Restaurants and hotels by West Lake have bikes for rental.

     


    (4) Boat

    Boat trips from Hangzhou to Suzhou or Wuxi along the Grand Canal leave at night and arrive at the destination in the early morning. This kind of service is usually only available in summer or peak seasons.

    Huangshan City is about 180kilometers (112 miles) from Thousand Islets Lake near Hangzhou City. There is no direct transportation between the two destinations. Travelers can take ships from Thousand Islets Island to Shendu Dock near Huangshan. Every day there is one ship leaving at around 10 in the morning. Direct buses between Lake of Thousand Islets and Hangzhou are available at Hangzhou West Long-distance Bus Station from 6:00 till 18:40 every 40 minutes.
