    Hong Kong, often called the "Oriental Pearl", is located on the southeast coastline of China, it is to the east of the mouth of Pearl River and about 200 km away from Guangzhou city, faces Macao across the sea in the west, and boarders Shenzhen city in the north. With an area of 1,, Hong Kong consists of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, The New Territories and a group of 263 islands. Hong Kong has developed into a very modern society and become a world-class monetary, trading and business city. Hong Kong became a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People's Republic of China on July 1, 1997, after a century and a half of British administration. Furthermore, the SAR enjoys a high degree of autonomy with its own currency, laws and customs except in defense and foreign affairs.



    Hong Kong is a fusion of many cultures. Remnants of its colonial past and the British culture and values, share space with the Chinese tradition. It's amazing to notice the gray Confucian temples edging against the western style churches.
