Day1Beijing
  • Meet our tour guide in Beijing airport, transfer to hotel. Free time for the rest of the day. If you arrive in the afternoon, recommend you to explore Beijing by yourself on the first evening in China. It is a nice choice to walk around the famous TianAnMen Square.   

    As the center of politics, cultural and international exchange, Beijing is a modern metropolis full of vitality. For the history buffs, Beijing is a living museum, but it has something to offer everyone. It is also the starting point for most of our China vacations.

    Tian An Men Square        
    TianAnMen Square, the symbolical heart of China and gathering place for the masses. Walk around there, imagining the great historic events of the 20th century took place there.

    Peking Opera: Peking opera is a synthesis of stylized action, singing, dialogue and mime, acrobatic fighting and dancing to represent a story or depict different characters and their feelings of gladness, anger, sorrow, happiness, surprise, fear and sadness. In Peking opera there are four main types of roles: sheng (male) dan (young female), jing( painted face,male), and chou (clown, male or female).

    Summer Palace
    This is the largest and most complete imperial garden existing in China. It was first built in the 12th century as an imperial palace. Renovations and extensions in the following several hundred years till the end of the 19th century transformed it into the scale we see today.

    Forbidden City
    The Forbidden City (Imperial Palace) in the heart of Beijing is the largest and most complete imperial palace and ancient building complex in China. Its construction began in 1406. Twenty four emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1644-1911) lived and ruled China from here.

    Peking Roast Duck: With its long history, Peking roast duck is well known among both domestic and overseas customers. The duck is hung in the oven and roasted by flame burning from fruit-wood. It takes about 45 minutes for the duck to be done. The finished duck is characteristic with crispy skin, tender meat and the fragrance from the fruit-wood.

  • The highlight today is the Great Wall. The Mutianyu Great Wall is less crowded than Badaling, you might walk up and down the Wall on foot, or take cable car one way or round trips. The extra cost of cable car (RMB 50 one way) will be at your own cost.

    Ming Tombs (Changling) Between 1368 and 1644 the Ming Dynasty had 16 emperors, and thirteen of them were buried in Beijing. This is where the tombs got their names from. The Ming tombs are located about 50 kilometers to the north of Beijing.

    Mutianyu Great Wall      
    The Mutianyu Great Wall is 73 km from Beijing and has 22 watchtowers, about one every kilometer. A 4,000 meter long pathway has been constructed from the road to the summit. It can also be reached by cable car.

    Lao She Tea House: Lao She Tea House is one of Beijing's most famous tea house, and has been visited by a number of well-known politicians. It is a wonderful entertainment house with short shows by comedians, singers, musicians, acrobats and opera performers.

  • Go further into local lanes and areas where local Beijingers live. The ricksaw tour to old Hutongs is the highlight today.

    The must-see area of Beijing Zoo is the famous Panda House, You can see lovely Giant Panda and lesser panda. Lakes and gardens abound in the zoo complex which is a weekend destination for families.

    Lama Temple  
    The Lama Temple, northeast of downtown Beijing, is the most famous Tibetan Buddhist temple outside of Tibet and was visited by past Dalai and Panchen Lamas (as well as one current-day Chinese-appointed Panchen Lama).

    The Temple of Heaven was built in the 15th century, a sacred site for ancient Beijing. This was where the emperor and his 1000 member entourage would retreat to for religious rituals twice a year. It is considered as the most supreme achievement of traditional Chinese architecture.

    Hutong Tour by Rickshaw        
    Rickshaws are actually three wheeled bicycles often driven by old, retired men. There are fleets of them circling around the TianAnMen square area, and they are always willing to take passengers. It is nice to take a ride around the square in the evening.

    [ Optional ] National Grand Theater: National Grand Theatre is colloquially described as The Egg, is an opera house in Beijing. Its location immediately to the west of Tiananmen Square, near the Forbidden City, combined with the theatre's futuristic design, created considerable controversy.
