Gansu Provincial Museum

Located in Xijin West Road, Qilihe District Lanzhou, Gansu Provincial Museum is the biggest comprehensive museum in the province, which has over 350,000 exhibits ranging from fossils of prehistoric living beings, Neolithic Painted-Pottery Culture to porcelain, woodcarving, silk fabrics and paintings in Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Gansu Provincial Museum covers a total area of 18,000 square meters. Besides, this museum was designed by the soviet experts. So travelers in Lanzhou should pay a visit to this container of miracle.

The museum complex is made up of three separate buildings linked by corridors, and further divided into two sections, a natural resources section downstairs and historical exhibit upstairs. Beside the various color-painted potteries of Neolithic Age and treasures of ancient grottoes, this museum is the home to precious linen and silk fabrics, books, wooden and bronze vessels, a great many bamboo slips for writing from the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220), frescos and so many other items. Moreover, there are also rare animal exhibits, such as pandas, golden monkeys and red -crowned cranes.

Galloping Horse's Hoof Stepped on a Flying Swallow or Galloping Horse, which was excavated in Wuwei County, Gansu Province in 1969, is one of the nation’s treasures.

A galloping horse with three hooves in the air and the right back hoof lands on the back of a small flying swallow. The bird turns in surprise to look at the big creature on its back. At the same moment, the horse's head also turns slightly in attempt to know what has happened.

Museum Guide Service: 
1. It costs CNY10 for an audio guide with a refundable deposit of CNY200.
2. Free guide service is available twice a day: at 09:30 and 15:00. Wait at the reception desk of Museum Guide Service.

2. Wheel chair is provided free of charge with showing your ID certificate and a refundable deposit of CNY200.

Bus Routes: 
Take bus 1, 18, 31, 50, 53, 58, 59, 71 and get off at Qilihe Qiao Station. The museum can be found on the south side of the road.
