1.Black Dragon Pool in Yunnan
The Black Dragon Pool was built in 1737 during the Qing Dynasty. It is a famous pond in the scenic Jade Spring Park (Yu Quan Gong Yuan) which is situated at the foot of Elephant Hill. Through a bridge, the pool is divided into two parts, it is strange that although the water is connected, they are different in colours in and it is even stranger that it seems that the fish in either side never swim to the opposite part of the pool. What's more, this wondrous pool has never dried up, even in drought years for hundreds of years.
Xuanwu Lake is a wonderful scenic spot protected under Chinese government, it is situated at the foot of Mt. Zhongshan in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.
It occupies an area of 444 hectares with a coastline of 15 kilometers in circumferences. The history of Xuanwu Lake can be dated back to the Pre-Qin period (21century BC-221 BC). Legend has it that, in the Southern Dynasty, a black dragon was seen in the lake, in Chinese Taoism, black dragon was believed a water god, together with a turtle and snake, called Xuanwu. Hence the lake was called Xuwu Lake. According to geological study, the lake was actually formed by the movements of the geological plates when Mountain Yanshan was formed.
Daming Lake is situated in the center of Jinan City, regarded as one of the three must-see tourist attractions in Jinan. It is famous for that Daming Lake is a natural lake formed by quite a lot springs. Characteristically peculiar is its constant water level, unaffected by heavy rains or drought.
It encompasses an area of 860,000 square meters (about 212 acres) of which the lake itself comprises of 460,000 square meters (about 113 acres). In summer, lotus bloom uninhibitedly with its fragrant scent and willows circle around the lake on three sides and swing with the breeze, forming an amazing picture.
Famous for the exceptionally natural and man-made scenery, many festivals and activities take place here every year, including different folk festivals, the Temple Fair in Spring Festival, the New Year Flower Exhibition, the Lotus Exhibition, and a wonderful Stone Exhibition.
West Lake is situated in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, which was formed under the influence of silt deposition in the Qiantang River. Totally, it occupies an area of 5.64 square kilometers with the perimeter as long as approximately 15 kilometers.
It is encircled by fantastic Longjing Mountain, Linshi Mountain, Nanping Mountain, Phoenix Mountain, and Lingyin Mountain, etc, presenting a charming scene of "a myriad of stars surround the moon".
Rich in cultural relics and historic sitesm it is endowed with touching myths and legends. Around the West Lake, there scattered over 40 senic spots and more than 30 key cultural relics and historic sites. Integrated with humanity, nature, history and arts, the West Lake is a famous historical culture-oriented tourist attraction in China.
Erhai Lake is nestled in the Dali Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province. It accquired the name for it is in a shape of an ear. Stretches 42 kilometers from north to south and 3.9 kilometers in the east-west way, the lake encompasses an area of over 250 square kilometers, its deepest area can even reach 21.5 meters.
It is praised as the pearl on plateau for its terrific scenery, among wich the most famous sights including Three Islets, Four Lands, and Nine Curves. Apart from all these mentioned above, Shadows of Three Towers, Nine-Arched Stone Bridge, and Jade Dragon Playing in the Water, etc are also wonderful. Moveover, with a mild climate, Erhai Lake is rich in aquatic products and is one of the largest production bases of aquatic products in Yunnan Province.
Jingpo Lake is situated southwest of Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province, covering a total area of 1200 square meters. It is a famous tourist attraction and summer resort in North China, crowned as "West Lake of North China". It has once been an ancient watercourse at the upriver of Peony River, about 10 thousand years ago, it changes into the biggest dammed lake of China in a volcanic eruption.
The Jingpo Lake scenic spot is primordial and natural, elegant as well as wonderful. The eight most favored scenic spots here are: Dagu Mountain, Xiaogu Mountain, Diaoshuilou Waterfall, Baishilazi, Chengqianglazi, Pearl Gate, Taoist Mountain, and Laogulazi.
Kanas Lake is situated in the north Burqin County of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, it is an alpine lake surrounded by thick forest of Altai mountain. The elevation is 1,374 meters, covering an area of 44.78 square kilometers, surrounded by virgin forest.
In Xinjiang, Kanas Lake Comprehensive Natural Reserve, is minimally influenced by mankind, keeps the completeness of a primitive state with the largest number of tree species of coniferous forest and wildlife species. In 2002, it was approved as the protection site of World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
Namtso Lake is situated in the Nakchu Prefecture of North Tibet. It is the salt lake at the highest altitude of the world, worshiped as Sacred Lake, or Heavenly Lake, regarded as one of the three holy lakes in Tibet.
In the elevation of 4718 meters, it covers an area of 1920 square kilometers and a vast area of water surface, with lush float grasses along the lakeshore, making it a natural pasture all the year round.
Qiandao Lake is situated in Chun'an County, Zhejiang Province, about 150 km (93 miles) west of Hangzhou City and 140 km (87 miles) southeast of Mt. Huangshan. It is among the first 44 national scenic spots proved by the State Council, and also the largest national forest park currently. It is not formed naturally but a man-made reservoir formed during the construction of Xin'anjiang Hydropower Station in 1959.
With 81% of the area covered in forests, Qian Dao Lake is a pure lake with clean, fresh air, presenting an image of a fantastic lake with 1078 islets showing different views in different seasons, rich in fish diversities, it is also noted for its verdurous mountains, crystal clear water, exotic caves and strange stones
Qinghai Lake is the largest inland salt water lake in China, and also the highest one, with an altitude of 3, 196 metres, also known by its Mongol name: Koko Nor, or Tibetan, Mtsho sngon po, refering to "the blue lake". It is situated in Qaidam Basin northeast of Qinghai Province, in a shape of a pear. Qinhai Lake stretches about 105 kilometres in length and 63 kilometres in width, covering an area of over 30,000 square kilometres. Qinghai Lake is abundant in rare species of birds and fishes. It has been added by the United Nations to The Ramsar Convention Manual and to The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat.
